THE LEGEND of LASEM VILLAGE (by wikipedia)
One of the largest Chinese immigrants in Java Island in the 14th to 15th centuries is Lasem (Lao Sam) in addition to Sampotoalang (Semarang) and Ujung Galuh (Surabaya). The arrival of Admiral Cheng Ho's large fleet to Java as a Chinese Emperor of Ming Dynasty political envoy who wanted to foster bilateral relations with Majapahit, especially in the field of culture and commerce of the country, they obtained legitimacy to conduct their commercial activities and then many lived and settled in the north coast Java Island. Even according to NJ Krom , Chinese settlements d period Majapahit Kingdom has existed since 1294-1527 M. This can be evidenced by the existence of old buildings such as Chinatown settlements with typical Chinese buildings and old temples located not far from the trade traffic along the flow Babagan River Lasem (then called Paturen River) which at that time as the main access of the link between the sea and land, as well as the control of strategic places of the economy by them at a later time, as can be seen in shopping centers along the highway city right now.

The culture at Lasem was a cultural blend of indigenous peoples (Java), Chinese & Campa (brought by Admiral Cheng Ho's army), Arabs, and Dutch. The real form of this cultural blend can we find up to this moment in Lasik motif Three Movement and Country Four.

You may find one unique custom in Lasem is called Lelet. They put some coffee ground on the part of cigarettes before they smoking.
